FIA's Principals have led project development activities for a 500 MW Compressed Air Energy Storage ("CAES") project in SW Ontario owned by Bedrock Energy Corp. ("Bedrock"). In running the Project Management Office ("PMO") for Bedrock, FIA's Principals have created all project management planning business documents, including the Gantt chart, schedule, budget, scope management, quality assurance, and risk plans allowing for the project to stay on track in a fast-paced changing environment with an emerging technology. FIA coordinates with dozens of internal and external project team members daily to deliver all work packages of the project. To date, FIA's Principals have successfully managed technical and environmental aspects of the project including the 500 kV electrical interconnection studies with HONI and the IESO, reservoir modelling studies, mechanical and thermal engineering plans, EPC Pre-FEED studies and working through environmental studies to prepare for the Environmental Assessment. FIA has also been engaged with and managed stakeholder relations through land acquisition negotiations, First Nations and municipal council consultations, regulatory approvals with the MNRF and OEB, and qualified the entity for the IESO RFQ procurement process. FIA played a key role in managing the capitalization and funding rounds which are a critical part of the success of the project.
St. Paul’s Bloor Street East is an historic and iconic structure in Toronto. The church dates back to 1842 and is a staple in the community to this day. To keep up and stay ahead with the ever-evolving methods of engaging with their congregation and the community, St. Paul’s made the decision to upgrade both the lighting and audio/visual (AV) system. When COVID-19 began, they were ahead of the curve by needing to move their services online, but also required them to speed up the need to be able to continue to engage during the pandemic. FIA’s Principals were hired as an Owner’s Representative to act on their behalf to help St. Paul’s manage the upgrades to the lighting and AV system. We were the intermediary between the contractors and consultants to work through and leading a successful project through contracting, budgeting, schedule management, tenders, construction and close out.
FIA's Principals have worked with entities to assist in the development of utility-scale wind and solar energy projects in Canada. Particularly, FIA's Principals have helped lead the scoping and siting stage of such projects through to land acquisition.
FIA's Principals have obtained a precedence-setting OEB approval via a hearing process for a Certificate of Public Convenience & Necessity for a small gas producer and distributor in an Enbridge Gas Inc. franchise area.
FIA's Principals have worked on various projects meant to feed into the statutory review of the Scottish National Marine Plan ("NMP"). Deliverables include the quality management review of sectoral marine energy plans and processes, an audit of project management frameworks for Scotland's engagement in multi-national EU projects, and the development and implementation of a methodology to account for ecosystem services in the policies and objectives of the NMP.
FIA’s Principals helped proponents successfully develop projects and deliver them into the Ontario IESO RFP procurement process for energy storage projects. Particularly, FIA's Principals have helped analyze the transmission system, develop a strategy on project siting and development, managed land acquisition, laid the framework for required environmental, municipal, and regulatory approvals, and assisted in contract structuring and execution.
FIA’s Principals coordinated with key industry, governmental, environmental, and community stakeholder organizations to project manage the Tidal Energy and Environmental Impacts case study of the European Union driven Multi-Use in European Seas (MUSES) project. The project entailed the development and application of various drivers, added values, barriers, and impacts to tidal energy co-location to determine best case scenarios for siting of future projects. Once the results from the overall MUSES project were achieved, FIA’s Principal’s coordinated with 10 project partners across 7 EU member states to facilitate the dissemination and exploitation of scientific results and publications.
